Shaker Village 2

One can only hope that the
very thought of wool in Kentucky
in August doesn't cause visitors to
faint straight away! Peg's summer colors
were so eye catching, it was easy to forget
the temperatures in the upper 90's!

Shaker Village

Posting again - gracious me, too long!

Rejuvenate - relax - restore.
Peg and I once again participated in the Craft Fair at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill.
As always, the hottest August days of the year.
But with such surroundings, no worries.
Here is a peak at our small square of heaven for that weekend.

If you ever have the chance, you must go.
It changes lives!

Days End Blues

Ire' is quite pleased with my
Robins Egg Blue Sunday . . .

A Robin's Egg Blue Sunday

A warm and sunny early Spring day!

With the windows thrown open, I am dragging out the dye pots to replenish my sparce looking hand dyed woolens.

Today my kettles are simmering Cupboard Blues, and Robins Egg, and farmhouse blues. Antiquing in Central Illinois last week we saw lots of these chippy blues on painted pieces, some original, and some with a layered fresh coat.

For recipes I turned to Wendy Miller's Cookbook for Primitive Colors, Karen Kahle's Vintage Colors, and The Woolie Gardens Recipes. These are 3 of my favorite dye recipe collections.

Blues are not often used in abundance in hooked rugs. Yesterday I drew a purse pattern, and will be hooking it in blues and creams - inspired by some of my stoneware crockery. Will post my results soon!

The Snow Storm

"Announced by all the trumpets of the sky,
Arrives the snow, and, driving o'er the fields,
Seems nowhere to alight: the whited air
Hides hills and woods, the river and the heaven,
And veils the farm-house at the garden's end.
The sled and traveller stopped, the courier's feet
Delayed, all friends shut out, the housemates sit
Around the radiant fireplace, enclosed
In a tumultuous privacy of Storm."
Reminded of Emerson as a basket of wool beacons to me this cold winter evening...
